You know your car best. When odd things start happening, you take notice to them almost immediately. Your senses kick in and you experience different characteristics with your car.
You might hear something new. You might smell something strange, you might feel a different type of vibration or jolting during shifts or you may see leaked fluids on your drive way, there are many ways to identify these issues using our senses alone.
The most recognizable signs your transmission is in trouble are as follows:
- You find transmission fluid on your driveway
A red fluid on your driveway is a sign that you probably have a transmission fluid leak. This is not only bad for the transmission but is also dangerous if the fluid leaks on a hot pipe or other surface. - Transmission won’t engage, takes a while or won’t stay in gear
If when you put your vehicle into gear and it won’t move, this may be a problem with fluid or shifter cables. No matter what it is, have this checked out immediately at Orange County Transmissions to avoid further damage. - Transmission slipping
As for slipping, this condition can also be caused by low transmission fluid, contamination due to lack of maintenance or water intrusion, or internal wear and tear on the transmission parts inside the transmission. A high revving engine is a typical sign that you have worn clutches or other parts inside the transmission going bad. - If there’s a burning smell
A burning smell is typically caused by little to no transmission fluid causing a burning clutch smell or leaked oil burning on hot parts. If you smell something burning, don’t delay your visit to Orange County Transmissions to increase your chances of saving the transmission from damage. - If there is vibration, clunking, or a humming noise
A vibration, clicking, humming, roaring noise from inside the transmission is usually a symptom of a bad bearing, planetary gears damage, or other internal problem.
